Zippy Shell, Fastest-growing Storage & Moving Company in U.S., Opens First Louisiana Location in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS — One of the fastest-growing storage and moving companies in the United States has opened its first location in Louisiana. Zippy Shell of Louisiana chose greater New Orleans as the first location for its portable container-to-climate-controlled, in-warehouse storage and on-site storage solutions. Zippy Shell of Louisiana is a locally owned franchise. Details were shared in a press release.

Demand for storage is at an all-time high, especially in New Orleans where housing rentals and occupancy are trending above 90 percent and basements are few and far between. The self-storage industry has increased about 4.5 percent year over year in the nation—and New Orleans is in line with that growth, according to storage research firm STR.

Zippy Shell offers two types of storage: a portable container stored in a climate-controlled warehouse and on-site portable storage. In both options, Zippy Shell brings a portable container “shell” to the client’s home, office or other location for loading. Clients can choose to either pack and load the shell themselves or have the Zippy Shell team do it for them. Containers can either be stored on-location, such as in a driveway at home or on a lot at an office in a secure, weatherproof shell, or the containers can be stored in Zippy Shell’s climate-controlled facility.

“All of us go through a significant life change at some point that requires relocation, downsizing, remodeling or moving temporarily,” said Joanell Jacques, general manager at Zippy Shell of Louisiana. “I’m excited that Zippy Shell’s easy and convenient portable storage is now another option to help make life easier for people going through those significant changes.”

The need for additional storage space has increased steadily over the past decade, now with nearly one in 11 Americans renting off-site storage space, according to Curbed. In New Orleans specifically, a lack of basements and garages increase the need for additional storage. New Orleans had around 8.6 million square feet of storage space in 2018, with more space being built in 2019. The United States has about 50,000 storage facilities nationwide, providing more than 2.3 billion square feet of space.
