WYES Event To Celebrate Indian Culture, Customs, Cuisine

NEW ORLEANS – Explore Indian culture, customs and cuisine with WYES and the Indian Arts Circle of New Orleans during WYES’ “Indian Summers” screening and special event on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at Metairie Park Country Day School, 300 Park Rd., in the Weinmann Auditorium, at 5:00 p.m.

         WYES’ special event celebrates the new PBS series “Indian Summers” airing on WYES-TV/ Channel 12 this September.

         Guests will get a firsthand look at the series, featuring actress Julie Walters (Harry Potter, The Hollow Crown) in an epic of India on the cusp of change. Guests will be immersed in Indian customs while tasting, drinking and experiencing all things from this very diverse culture.

         Attendees will enjoy sampling popular Indian snacks like Veggie Samosas, Veggie Pakoras and Chai Tea from restaurants Taj Mahal and Nirvana Indian Cuisine. Silk Road restaurant will serve Lemongrass Crab Bisque and Chicken Vindaloo with Basmati Rice.

         Attendees will also experience a customary lamp lighting ceremony and discover the magical art of henna painting.

         In addition, literary aficionados will enjoy a presentation by Georgia author and photographer, Robert Arnett, who will speak on the “Effects of the British Raj on Modern India.” Arnett’s 45-year love for India led to his internationally acclaimed book “India Unveiled,” which has won three national book awards. He is also the author of “Finders Keepers,” a children's book set in India. Be sure not to miss the silent auction items, gift certificates for dinners, spa treatments, yoga classes, cooking lessons, jewelry and more.
