WTC Praises Selection of La. Native for Deputy Energy Secretary

UrlNEW ORLEANS – World Trade Center energy committee chair Eric Smith has nothing but good things to say about the confirmation of new US Deputy Secretary of Energy Mark Menezes, the Louisiana native who previously served as the under secretary of energy under Dan Brouillette and former Secretary Rick Perry.

“Mark’s confirmation as deputy secretary of energy is an across the board win from a state, regional and international perspective,” said Smity. “His experience and leadership in the energy sector will bode well for an industry disrupted during the first quarter of 2020 where oil markets saw unprecedented volatility and declining prices amid concerns over the economic impact of COVID-19. The latter combined with an oversupply in the oil market, the price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia, caused energy prices to drop precipitously. I applaud U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy’s confirmation. Mark’s selection is well-timed and will make a difference.”

According to his official biography, Menezes – an LSU grad – will be the department’s principal advisor on energy policy and on a wide array of existing and emerging energy technologies. The deputy secretary is responsible for “driving transformative energy progress and technology solutions through coordinated planning, management, and innovation.”
