SHREVEPORT, LA (AP) — Work to give the Jimmie Davis Bridge a $23 million makeover won't start until at least the spring — much later than planned.
The Times’ Alexandria Burris reports the bridge originally was slated to close this month for the work that includes re-decking, painting, structural work and new lighting.
But with the project being pushed back, a firm closure date is up in the air.
Cindy Dorfner, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development spokeswoman, said Wednesday the project currently is in a 120-day assemble period which began Jan. 23. During that time, the contractor will gather materials and equipment to start the repairs. A 550-day project timeline kicks in when that timeframe ends.
Dorfner says it should take a year to renovate the bridge, which will be closed during that period.
