NEW ORLEANS – The Urban League of Louisiana’s Women-In-Construction Convening (WICC): The Art and Science of Collaboration, will present a session called “The State of Women in Construction and What You Should Be Doing Now to Position Yourself for Success,” on Thursday, July 20, at the New Orleans Jazz Market, 1436 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.
The esteemed panel of industry influencers will talk about the specific challenges and opportunities that impact women in construction and their potential for growth and scalability. Panelists at this session will also share insights on the importance of collaboration and what women in the field should be doing now to position themselves for success.
Panelists include:
• Ann Teague Landis, CCIFP
CEO
Landis Construction
As CEO and a third-generation head of company, Teague leads strategy, administration and finance for the company. She works closely with other members of the executive team to maximize opportunity for the company's stakeholders including clients, business partners and employees.
• LaRae Bowman
Director of Diversity
Broadmoor
Bowman serves as Broadmoor’s diversity director and is responsible for leading and managing its company-wide and project-specific diversity programs. She is responsible for advising the executive team in those areas where further employee and sub-contractor diversity opportunities could be served.
• Melissa Gibbs
Business Development and DBE/SBE Outreach
Gibbs Construction
Gibbs directs business development and manages small and disadvantaged subcontractor outreach for her family business Gibbs Construction, a commercial general building contractor. She is also involved in real estate development, having purchased, renovated and managed numerous small historic multifamily rental properties over the last 12 years.
• Lauren Marshall
Director, DBE Outreach
Woodward Design + Build
Marshall’s role at Woodward includes the development, preparation and execution of vendor plans, as well as, monitoring DBE performance and sub-contracting requirements. She also develops and maintains bidders' lists of small business firms, assuring that bid packages are structured to permit small business participation to the maximum extent possible.

Vice President, NAWIC
Gordon, a partner at Shields | Mott, LLP, concentrates her practice in construction/surety law and commercial litigation. She has represented owners, contractors, subcontractors and design professionals in all aspects of construction from contract negotiation and drafting, claim drafting and counseling during construction, and claims resolution in state and federal courts and before arbitration panels.

There will be a Women-In-Networking' (WIN) Happy Hour from 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
