MARRERO, LA – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and West Jefferson Medical Center (WJMC) will be offering screening mammograms for $99, from Oct. 1 – Oct. 31, at the Women’s Imaging & Breast Care Center, 4521 Westbank Expressway, in Marrero.
WJMC reps said breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer deaths. They said getting regular mammograms is the best way to lower your risk of dying from the disease. Screening tests can find breast cancer early, when it’s most treatable, reps said.
The American Cancer Society recommends women aged 40 and older have a mammogram every year and continue to do so for as long as they are in good health and in consultation with their physician’s recommendation.
WJMC is encouraging women to schedule a mammogram even if they have high health insurance deductibles or no insurance at all.
