Who knew a workout on a trip could be the highlight?
When I stay at a hotel, I like to engage in long stretches of time… doing absolutely nothing. I sleep too much, I eat too much and I watch too much TV. Usually, my only form of exercise is cruising the Concierge trying to score a dinner reservation at the hot spot in town.
Turns out, there are people on the go who want to keep going, even at a hotel.
That’s where The Sweat Social comes in. They say they are the first and only fitness services company designed for, dare I say it, “Fitsetters” who are jetsetters who care about their health and fitness goals while on the road.
The Sweat Social has announced a new partnership with the 23-story award-winning luxury Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans.
“We are extremely excited about our partnership with The Sweat Social, as it gives the hotel’s concierge, reservations and sales teams an opportunity to provide our guests with an incredible option for a not-so-average workout,” Ralph Mahana, director of rooms at Windsor Court, said. “In addition to the Running Tours, which will help guests address their fitness needs while exploring some of the rich history of this wonderful city, we will also offer a monthly Work Out Social on-site that will conclude with a libation, allowing the hotel to showcase some of New Orleans’ best cocktails.”
The partnership solidifies The Sweat Social’s fitness solutions as the hottest workouts in the Crescent City for visitors, offering hotel guests a fitness experience not found at their home gyms. The Sweat Social curates on-site fitness events at hotels, including Le Meridien Hotel and W French Quarter, and unique locations that incorporate the destination in fun ways.
“It’s common for our instructors to lead an event in costume and throw beads at participants during Mardi Gras season,” Rupa Mohan, Sweat Social co-founder and master instructor, said. “We want to make sure that our customers get something more memorable than just a great workout.”
The Sweat Social offers signature classes like SWEAT – a 30-minute interval training, boxing, strength and cardio workout at the Gazebo near the Steamboat Natchez along the Riverwalk, and STRETCH – a 30-minute class with Pilates, yoga and core conditioning.
The 45-minute guided 5k Running Tours give the lonely run a facelift by leading participants on a stride through time and history. Taking a breather at historical points of interest, the runners are met by authentic tour guides ready to captivate their audience with memorable insights into the famous history and people of New Orleans.
“The Sweat Social was born out of two of my passions, fitness and travel,” Mohan said. “Figuring out a workout routine or where to run in a new city isn’t how most people want to spend time on a trip. The Sweat Social takes the chore out of exercising on the road through connecting a cutting-edge workout with the flavor of the destination while keeping convenience in mind. Working out with us isn’t a chore; it’s something travelers want to add to their itinerary.”
According to the Stanford Research Institute, wellness travel is a $500 billion dollar market, or 15% of what is spent on tourism worldwide.
Who are these people?
According to The Sweat Social they are “Fitsetters,” a term they coined for fitness junkies who travel and want to focus on effective, efficient results, who spend, on average, 150 percent more than typical visitors.
While not boot camp classes, these Sweat Social fitness experiences are led by instructors who hold ACE (American Council on Exercise) personal training certifications as well as AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America) group fitness certifications. In addition, many instructors have certifications in CPR and AED.
Each workout allows beginners, intermediate, advanced and even elite levels to participate and get an equally challenging workout with squats and planks along with more unique exercises like the boxer shuffle, gyros, froggers, plyo lunges, cradles and archers to keep things fun and fashionable.
Sweat Social reps said you don't need to be a fitness nut to enjoy these classes, but you'll still be happy if you are.
