NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Culinary Cultural Preservation Society and Tujague’s team up to celebrate National Whiskey Day and the premier of the award winning Whiskey Punch on Friday, March 27, 2015, at 11:30 a.m.
The event takes place at Tujague’s Restaurant, 823 Decatur St., New Orleans, home to America’s “Oldest Stand Up Bar.”
The kick off will showcase the award winning Whiskey Punch with food and drinks.
Poppy Tooker, contributor to “Madame Begue’s Recipes of Old New Orleans Creole Cookery,” will also be in attendance to share famous stories of Philip Guichet and his award winning cocktails: The Grasshopper and The Whiskey Punch.
In 1956, Guichet placed first in the Early Times National Cocktail Competition with a drink he called Whiskey Punch. Somehow, the award winning drink never received the attention showered on the Grasshopper and it was lost in time. On National Whiskey Day, Tujague’s will bring Guichet’s award winning cocktail into the 21st century when it will be a featured drink again at the historic restaurant and bar.
