HOUMA, LA (AP) — A Houma-based education center aimed at calling attention to the threat of eroding wetlands is planning for a new home.
The Courier’s Sean Ellis reports that the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center has entered into a lease agreement with Terrebonne Parish for a new site in Houma.
Construction should begin by summer or fall of 2016 if expected financing becomes available by then.
The first phase, a live wetlands exhibit, will include an outdoor pavilion, a boardwalk and an outdoor educational space. The cost for phase one is about $1.3 million.
