Westwego City Council Approves Filming Permit Fees

WESTWEGO, LA (AP) — Westwego will get a piece of Hollywood South.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune’s Paul Purpura reports the city council on Monday voted unanimously to require movie production companies wishing to film in Westwego to get permits.

And that means Westwego will charge the production companies an array of fees, depending on the level of involvement. Modeled after Gretna's film production ordinance, Westwego will now charge a $150 permit fee to any production company wanting to work in the city.

Westwego also will charge a daily impact fee of $200 to $600, depending on the intensity of the shoots.

Movie production companies also would be required to hire off-duty Westwego police officers for security, at a rate of $35 per hour.
