West Jefferson To Observe National Donate Life Month With Flag Raising

MARRERO, LA – West Jefferson Medical Center (WJMC) is teaming up with the Louisiana Procurement Agency (LOPA) to host a flag raising to honor organ donor families and recipients during National Donate Life Month, Thursday, April 6, at West Jefferson Atrium, 1101 Medical Center Blvd., in Marrero, at 10:30 a.m.

In Louisiana, 2,144 people are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. One donor can potentially save up to nine people's lives, WJMC reps said. More than 50 people can benefit from one donor’s tissue donation and eye donation can help two people have their sight restored.

These are all reasons why WJMC and LOPA want to raise awareness of the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation and encourage people to register as donors, during National Donate Life Month, WJMC reps said.

During the flag raising ceremony, the Donate Life flag will be flown across from WJMC’s atrium. The flag’s purpose is to honor the hundreds of thousands of donors and recipients whose lives have been affected by organ, eye and tissue donation nationwide. In attendance will be donor family members, recipients and many members of the WJMC hospital family.

Ultimately, WJMC and LOPA want to celebrate those that have saved lives through the gift of donation.
