AMITE, LA (AP) — Customers of the Tangipahoa Water District will be paying slightly more for their water in the coming months to help finance extensive improvements to the system that serves most of the parish's rural residents.
The Advocate’s Vic Couvillion reports the parish council on Monday approved a resolution authorizing the water district to sell $5 million in bonds to cover the cost of improving and extending the system.
Gary Clark, manager of the water district, said customers will see an approximate 5 percent rise in their water bills once the bonds have been delivered and improvements are being made.
Clark says the first problem to be addressed will be elimination of manganese in the water now being delivered in the southeast corner of the parish.
