NEW ORLEANS – Every few days, the personal finance website WalletHub publishes reports with titles like “Best Places to Flip Houses” or “Happiest States in America” and very often New Orleans and Louisiana rank at or near the bottom of these lists. The latest example, just in time for Women’s History Month, is Louisiana coming in last place in WalletHub’s rankings of “Best and Worst States for Women.”
To identify the most women-friendly places to live, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 24 key metrics. Here are details:

- 50th – Unemployment Rate for Women
- 50th – Share of Women in Poverty
- 38th – Share of Women-Owned Businesses
- 46th – High School Graduation Rate for Women
- 28th – Share of Women Who Voted in 2016 Presidential Election
- 37th – Female Uninsured Rate
- 46th – Women’s Life Expectancy at Birth
- 30th – Quality of Women’s Hospitals
