VH1 To Award Morris Jeff Community School $60K Save The Music Grant

NEW ORLEANS – The Morris Jeff Community School is the recipient of a $60,000 grant from VH1 Save The Music Foundation.

         The school will celebrating Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Morris Jeff Community School, 211 S. Lopez St., at 11:00 a.m., with a grant presentation that will feature a performance by Morris Jeff students along with special musical guest The Presidio Brass Quintet.

         The school will use the funds to create a band program for its middle school students, reps said. The grant will also provide 35 band instruments for students, along with method books, music stands, music racks and staff training.

         Orleans Parish School Board (OPSB) Superintendent Dr. Henderson Lewis, Jr.; Sarah Usdin, Orleans Parish School Board district member; Chiho Feindler, VH1 Save The Music Foundation senior director of programs and policy; and Patricia Perkins, Morris Jeff Community School principal will be in attendance at the grant presentation.
