Vandals Deface Battle Of Liberty Place Monument

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Battle of Liberty Place monument has been vandalized.

On one side, vandals threw red paint on the monument, which sits outside of Canal Place in New Orleans. On another side, vandals painted "Take ‘em all down now."

WWL-TV reports the vandalism occurred sometime over the weekend.

The effort to remove the Liberty Place monument is being handled separately from three other confederate monuments, which also have been vandalized and are slated to be removed.

All of those efforts are being challenged in court.

New Orleans city leaders and community groups have been working for about two years to remove four Confederate monuments. The Andrew Jackson statue is not on the list, but Take 'Em Down NOLA hosted a rally Sept. 24 calling for its removal.
