NEW ORLEANS – On Saturday, July 29, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. David J. Shulkin will provide keynote remarks to an audience of more than 3,000 ill and injured Veterans, their families and supporters at the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) 96th National Convention in the Grand Ballroom at the Hilton News Orleans Riverside, 2 Poydras St., at 9:45 a.m.
The Department of Veterans Affairs is embarking on the largest transformation and modernization effort in recent history, reps said. Secretary Shulkin recently established the VA Office of Accountability and Whistleblower Protection and announced that the VA will dispose of 430 vacant buildings in 24 months. In June, President Donald Trump signed into law the VA Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act and Secretary Shulkin announced the VA will adopt a joint electronic health record system integrated across all DoD and VA components.
DAV empowers Veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity, organizers said. They said it is dedicated to a single purpose – fulfilling their promises to the men and women who served. DAV, a nonprofit organization with 1.3 million members, was founded in 1920 and chartered by the U. S. Congress in 1932.
