NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The U.S. Navy says the USS New Orleans, the Avondale-built amphibious transport dock ship, has completed five days of sea trials.
NOLA.com/ The Times-Picayune’s Paul Purpura reports the sea trials followed an 8-month maintenance period, during which the ship received $16 million in repairs and upgrades at a San Diego shipyard.
While at sea, the Navy says the New Orleans' crew tested the ship's damage control systems, navigational equipment and propulsion plant. Sea trials also provided the opportunity for the crew to train.
