New Orleans – On Aug. 7, the University of New Orleans announced that its Master’s in Teaching (MAT) has been ranked No. 14 among the top 30 programs of its kind in the country. Top Master’s in Education, publisher of an online guide for prospective graduate students seeking to teach at the elementary school level, places the UNO program between Stanford University and the University of Chicago among its nationwide rankings for 2017.
According to the organization’s website, Top Master’s in Education provides an independent and comprehensive guide to earning a master's degree in education through its objective rankings and critical reviews of degree programs and colleges of education. Criteria used for determining rankings included the school's reputation, National Council for Teacher Quality evaluations, student to faculty ratio, tuition and mid-career salary. Data used in determining rankings came from the National Center for Educational Statistics, the National Council for Teacher Quality, U.S. News & World Report and school websites.
“We are proud of our Master’s in Teaching program, which continues to grow, as those with a bachelor’s degree come back to earn teacher certification and a master’s degree,” said Kim Martin Long, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Education and Human Development. “Graduates gain valuable teaching experience in internship and student teaching, working closely with our strong faculty and master teachers.”
Students in UNO’s program complete the entire program in two to two-and-a-half years. A complete list of the Top Master’s in Education programs can be viewed online here.
