Unclaimed Property Database At Metairie Mall Saturday

METAIRIE, LA (AP) — Visitors on Saturday to the Lakeside Shopping Center will be able to see if they have unclaimed property.

         The Louisiana Department of Treasury says it'll have staff at the mall to help people browse a computer database to find unclaimed property. There is more than $700 million in unclaimed property available.

         Typically, unclaimed property claims relate to old savings and checking accounts, payroll checks, stocks and dividends, insurance proceeds, oil and natural gas royalty payments and utility deposits.

         The database will be placed in the center court of the Lakeside Shopping Center in Metairie between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

         Officials are telling people to bring a valid photo ID and Social Security card to speed up the claims process.

         State Treasurer John Kennedy says the average claim is $900.
