UAB Launches Dual Medicine, Business Graduate Program

BIRMINGHAM, AL (AP) — An Alabama university is planning to launch a graduate program that merges business and medicine.

         University of Alabama at Birmingham officials say the school now accepting applications for a program offering students doctorate degrees in medicine and master's degrees in business administration.

         Officials say the program will introduce medical students to the business side of health care. The program will offer courses in supply chain management, accounting, finance, marketing and more.

         Dean of UAB's Collat School of Business Eric Jack said in a statement that the four-year program will offer medical students more career options.

         Officials say students will be automatically enrolled in required business courses and books and materials will be supplied to them.

         The program is expected to start in summer 2016.
