U.S. State Dept. Rep. Stone To Speak To Regional Leaders About Trans-Pacific Partnership

NEW ORLEANS – Laura Stone, the Director of the Economic Policy Office in the Bureau of East Asian and Economic Affairs, U.S. Department of State, will discuss the Trans-Pacific Partnership and its impact on Louisiana's economy with regional Greater New Orleans business leaders next week.

         Stone’s Economic Policy Office is responsible for multilateral economic affairs in Asia, including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Free Trade and Investment Agreement, as well as coordinating reporting on key economic developments and advocating for U.S. economic interests with the governments of Asia. Stone has 25 years of experience working for the Department of State on Asian economic issues. She has served in Hanoi, Beijing, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Washington, DC.

         Stone has a degree in government from Cornell University, and read for a D.Phil. in International Economics at Oxford University. Her husband, Mark Lambert, is also a U.S. diplomat serving in Washington. They have two daughters.

         The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) writes the rules for global trade-rules that State Dept. reps said will help increase Made-in-America exports, grow the American economy, support well-paying American jobs, and strengthen the American middle class.
