BATON ROUGE – A recent U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report shows tourism accounted for nearly 25 percent of jobs gained in Louisiana from September 2016 to September 2017. The Tourism industry saw an increase of 6,000 jobs, representing a 2.6 percent increase from 230,000 jobs in September 2016 to 236,000 jobs in September 2017.
“This job creation emphasizes the need to invest in Louisiana’s tourism industry,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “This investment to promote and market Louisiana leads to thousands of direct and indirect jobs for the people of Louisiana and more than $1 billion dollars in tax revenue generated for our state’s economy. For every $1 spent attracting visitors to Louisiana, the state sees a return of $40 in tax revenue.”
Additionally, the report showed Louisiana’s jobless rate decreased from 6.1 percent to 5.1 percent over the same time period.
