Tulane Health System Invests $1.7M In New Operating Room Equipment

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane Health System is purchasing $1.7 million in new operating room equipment as part of its commitment to providing innovative, quality healthcare to the New Orleans community, hospital reps said. The new equipment will include installation of four Stryker High-Definition Endoscopy Video Systems, which are used during minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery.

“During laparoscopic surgery, we make very small incisions and use cameras to see into the body during a procedure,” said Dr. Christopher DuCoin, a laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon at Tulane Health System.  “Tulane’s new laparoscopic surgical video system gives us clear, high-definition images of what is happening in the body. The system also encompasses technology that allows us to visualize blood vessels and the movement of oxygen through tissue, which means we can see organs in ways we’ve never been able to before.”

In addition to the endoscopy video system, Tulane Health’s OR capital investment includes adding specialized neurosurgery instruments, upgrading equipment for urological, ENT and orthopedic surgeries, and much more.

“As a premier academic medical center, we strive to stay at the forefront of medical advancements to ensure our patients are receiving the best care and our physicians have the latest tools for teaching the next generation of doctors,” said Dr. William Lunn, president and CEO of Tulane Health System.  “Investing in this new operating room equipment is just one way we’ll be continuing to advance Tulane Health System this year.”

The equipment will be spread between Tulane Medical Center in downtown New Orleans and Tulane Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children in Metairie. Purchase, installation and equipment training are taking place throughout the first several months of 2017.
