NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A barge manufacturing plant in the Port Allen area plans to close this fall, meaning a loss of more than 280 jobs.

Trinity Marine Products Inc., informed state labor officials of the plans to begin shutting down Oct. 23. They expect to complete the shutdown and layoffs of 283 workers by Nov. 30.

Aaron Caffarel, a spokesman for the commission, said the state will work with the company to provide services to laid off employees, including help with job searches and resumes and information on unemployment benefits.

Officials at the parent company, Trinity Industries Inc., in Dallas, declined immediate comment.
