Treasurer Kennedy Announces $800K Raised For U.S. Senate Race

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Republican Treasurer John Kennedy says he has raised more than $800,000 for his U.S. Senate campaign.

Kennedy's campaign announced the fundraising figure Wednesday, more than a week before reports for the quarter ending March 31 are due to the Federal Election Commission.

The state treasurer's campaign says 95 percent of the money came from Louisiana donors.

When he announced in January, Kennedy started off well behind two of his GOP competitors. In their last campaign finance reports, U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany had $1.7 million, and U.S. Rep. John Fleming reported $2.3 million. Neither man has announced his most recent round of donations.

The November election to fill the seat being vacated by Republican David Vitter is packed. At least two other Republicans and three Democratic candidates are in the race.
