STERLINGTON, La. (AP) — A state senator says one of the smallest towns in north Louisiana now has the best baseball and softball complex in the region.
Sen. Mike Walsworth's Facebook message Thursday celebrated the Sterlington Sports Complex, which the town of 2,500 built with a half-penny sales tax passed two years ago. It has five fields each for baseball and softball, and two for tee ball.
News media report the complex held a ribbon-cutting Thursday, though the complex opened in March. It has booked 45 events for 2018 and is almost completely booked for next year.
Alderman Kerry Elee tells The News-Star that 24 of this year's events are new to the area, making a tremendous immediate impact to the town's economy.
