NEW ORLEANS – It’s an underused tract in Mid-City, but New Orleans businessman Sidney Torres IV sees the 9 acres of land he bought near Bayou St. John as the launching pad for his latest project – a large and high end mixed-use development.
According to Della Hasselle with The Advocate, the sale is the largest real-estate transfer in the neighborhood in decades,.
As the Lafitte Greenway bike path, that will eventually connect the French Quarter to Lakeview, nears completion, Torres said his 380,000 square feet of space adjacent to the Greenway will house a residential and commercial community that he envisions will look like Florida’s Alys Beach.
Hasselle reports Torres sees the development including a gym, eateries, playgrounds, bike paths, a boutique hotel and even a community fire pit and a paddleboard and kayak rental shop.
Torres told Hasselle the project may be called “Bayou St. John,” and would support luxury living near the city’s growing medical district.
