Today’s National Blue & Green Day For Organ Donor Awareness Month

NEW ORLEANS – April is Organ Donor Awareness Month and today, Friday, April 15, 2016, is National Blue and Green Day.

To celebrate, the Ochsner Multi-Organ Transplant Institute, the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) and organ transplant recipients will participate in a Flag Raising  ceremony and butterfly release to honor those who have donated at Ochsner Medical Center, 1514 Jefferson Highway, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Following the ceremony, a donor drive will take place to encourage people to sign up and become a donor.

Ochsner and LOPA also encourage members of the community to wear green or blue, the official colors of Donate Life Louisiana, to show support of organ and tissue donation.

More than 121,000 men, women and children are on the national transplant waiting list. In Louisiana more than 2,000 people are waiting for organ transplants.

One donor can save up to nine lives.
