Through Traffic Closed On Iberville St. At Bourbon St. Today

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans construction contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, will close Iberville Street at the intersection of Bourbon Street to through traffic today Monday, May 1, at 8:00 a.m. and lasting through sunset.

The temporary closure is necessary for construction crews to identify the actual location of underground utilities that may have settled over time, reps said. Crews are currently reconstructing the roadway and its underground utilities as part of the French Quarter Infrastructure Improvement Project.

Drivers may use N. Rampart and Decatur Streets as alternate routes to Bourbon Street and Canal or Conti streets as alternative routes to Iberville Street. Commuters are reminded to use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near this construction site.

The $6 million reconstruction project calls for removing and replacing existing water and drainage lines, repairing the sewer line, repaving the roadway in concrete, installing new sidewalks when necessary and installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
