Thomas Galligan Named New LSU Law School Dean

BATON ROUGE (AP) — The president of Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire has been named as the next leader of Louisiana State University's law school.

         The Advocate’s Rebekah Allen reports that Thomas Galligan Jr. was named dean of the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center on Thursday and will start July 1 after having taught at the campus 18 years ago.

         LSU President F. King Alexander said in a statement that he expects Galligan will help expand the school's opportunities for its students.

         Galligan has served as Colby-Sawyer College's president since 2006. The school's website says that Galligan previously was dean and professor of law at the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville and was a law professor at the LSU Law Center from 1986 to 1998.

         Former Chancellor Jack Weiss stepped down in July.
