New Orleans' City Council has unanimously rescinded a human rights resolution supported by Palestinian proponents but criticized by others as tied to anti-Semitism.
Thursday's vote was met with protests inside the meeting room, where roughly two dozen supporters broke into a song of protest.
Outside, other supporters could be heard shouting protests. They had been shut out of the meeting room because of space limitations.
The Jan. 11 resolution "encourages the creation of a process" to review city investments or contracts involving businesses that violate human and civil rights. It does not mention any nation, issue or business.
But a council news release noted it was adopted "in accordance with the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanction movement."
That movement is widely viewed as aimed at Israel's policies toward Palestinians.

But a council news release noted it was adopted "in accordance with the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanction movement, also known as BDS."
That movement is widely viewed as being aimed at Israel's policies toward Palestinians.
The council drew rebukes from critics who said the movement is rooted in anti-Semitism.
Now, it's on Thursday's council agenda for reconsideration.
Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell, currently a council member, authored the resolution. She said in a news release she supports withdrawal of the resolution.
