NEW ORLEANS – The Downtown Development District (DDD), the nation's first assessment-based business improvement district (BID) to provide enhanced services in economic development, cleaning and safety, announced events they will be hosting to ring in the holiday season:
• Canal Street Lighting Ceremony

Astor Crown Plaza, 739 Canal St.
5:00 p.m.
The DDD and The Astor Crowne Plaza invite the public to watch them "flip the switch," in front of the hotel, at 5:30 p.m., turning on more than 1 million twinkling lights on historic Canal Street.
Kids who bring an unwrapped toy can join Santa and decorate holiday cookies in the hotel's St. Charles Ballroom just off the lobby from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
There will be entertainment by Franklin Avenue Baptist Church Mass Choir and a special visit from Santa Claus
The event will be hosted by FOX 8's Bob Breck.

The free events will be held in partnership with The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk and The New Orleans Film Society.
The first 50 families to sign in at each movie will receive a commemorative fleece blanket.

The DDD and The Roosevelt New Orleans will host New Orleans’ official holiday parade. The “Krewe of Jingle,” will delight locals and visitors alike with authentic parade floats, marching bands, stilt walkers, Christmas characters and many more magical surprises.

Canal Street, beginning and ending at the Riverwalk Spanish Plaza
Registration at 8:00 a.m., Race starts at 9:00 a.m.
Presented by the DDD and Entergy New Orleans, the annual holiday fun run for kids on Canal Street will feature Rudolph, Santa and friends who will jingle their bells to signal the start of the race. Participants will receive antlers, a race T-shirt and a bag of holiday goodies. After the race, “Romp” around the Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza and enjoy healthy activities like yoga for kids and parents, pictures with Santa, music, games, crafts and more.
Online Registration will close on Wednesday, December 10, at 3:00 p.m.
