HOUMA, LA (AP) — Terrebonne tourism officials are seeking local stories to feature in an upcoming historical trail that will honor African-American culture and history throughout the parish.
The Courier’s Maki Somosot reports Houma Area Convention and Visitors Bureau spokesman Joey Pierce says the criteria is to have a compelling personal story that has some significance to the history of the area.
Pierce says the plan is to install permanent historical panels throughout the parish to share these stores with visitors and locals alike.
Pierce says those with stories should also have supporting materials such as photographs or letters.
Funded by parish and grant money, the project has been in the planning stages for 12 years.
Pierce says the goal is to collect as many stories as possible before October, when the tourism agency would ideally like to start designing the panels.
