HOUMA (AP) — Many Terrebonne Parish properties will be tobacco-free starting April 1, 2015.
An ordinance passed by the parish council at its Wednesday night meeting bans the use of all tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars, electronic cigarettes and chewing tobacco for visitors and parish employees.
Officials tell Chris Leblanc with The Courier the ban will promote a healthier work environment for smokers and non-smokers alike.
The list of banned properties include:
The animal shelter, Ashland Landfill, Old City Hall, all fire departments, Gas Department, Government Tower and its parking garage, all Head Start locations, Houma Generating Station, Houma Police Department, Houma Police Emergency Response Office, Juvenile Detention Center, Office of Homeland Security, Pollution Control, all Public Works Department properties, Purchasing Department, Transit Department, Utilities and Gas Department and all parish-owned vehicles.
