Terrebonne Parish Lands $1.6M For New Operations Center

HOUMA, LA (AP) — The state approved $1.6 million for the new Terrebonne Parish Emergency Operations Center, which will allow the parish to accept bids on its construction.

The Courier’s Sean Ellis reports it will sit on the new the 30-acre parish complex off Louisiana 24 north of the U.S. 90 overpass in Gray. That plot will also house a new animal shelter and juvenile detention center.

The current emergency operations center is only about 5,000 square feet. It is not outfitted to withstand hurricanes stronger than a category two.
