OPELOUSAS, LA (AP) — A teenager's food drive will feed about 175 families this holiday season.
The Advertiser’s Jordan Arceneaux reports 14-year-old Cortland Reed held his fifth-annual food drive and helped gather over 2,000 pounds of food for Opelousas Food Bank on Monday.
Reed says last year he reached his goal of 1,000 pounds and wanted to double his goal to 2,000 this year.
The eighth grader says he found the inspiration to organize a food drive five years ago after seeing a commercial about people starving. He says he felt compelled to help feed kids like him.
Dana Reed, the food bank's director, says the food bank feeds about 250 families each month. She says Reed's donation helped the food bank feed over half of their monthly quota.
