BATON ROUGE (AP) — The Southern University Board of Supervisors has decided to keep interim chancellor Dr. Lisa Mims-Devezin as the permanent chancellor for Southern University at New Orleans.
She replaces Victor Ukpolo, who stepped down at the end of June.
Dr. Mims-Devezin was one of two finalists.
System President Ray Belton said Friday that Dr. Mims-Devezin has tremendous support in the university's community.
Dr. Mims-Devezin is a native of Long Beach, California. Before being named interim chancellor of SUNO, she was the dean of SUNO's College of Arts and Sciences.
She has a bachelor of science in biology/pre-med from SUNO, and a master of science in biology/microbiology and a Ph.D. in science/math education from Southern University Baton Rouge.
She described herself as a daughter of the Southern University System, saying, "I am because Southern University is."
