State Rep. Jackson Qualifies With A Crowd

MONROE, LA – State Rep. Katrina Jackson (D-Monroe) qualified to seek reelection in House District 16 on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, and she did it with an impressive display of support.

Following a Prayer Breakfast at the Monroe Civic Center, more than 100 of her supporters turned out to cheer as she completed the necessary paperwork and paid the qualifying fee.

"It's always exciting to be a candidate, but it's especially heartening to do with a crowd of supporters," Jackson said. "I've worked hard for District 16, and I'm really happy so many turned out to show their encouragement."

Jackson, an attorney by profession, is completing her first term in the House, where she said she has distinguished herself with her election as chair of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus and by building coalitions across party lines to pass important legislation.

"My work in Baton Rouge isn't about politics," Jackson said. "It's about people. I will continue to serve the people of District 16 in the House if they support me in reelection, and will continue to work hard in improving the lives of Louisiana's citizens."
