State police arrest 34 in insurance fraud investigation

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana State Police say a two month investigation into insurance fraud and auto theft led to the arrest of 34 people across the state.

Troopers say in news release its Insurance Fraud and Auto Theft unit investigated staged crashes, fraudulent injury claims, worker's compensation fraud, forged medical records and inflated property claims.

In one of the incidents, police say an investigation led to the arrest of a LaPlace man, who was involved in a staged crash with a Cadillac Escalade and a rented U-Haul truck.

Troopers say the suspect paid another man to rent the truck.

They say he then reported an injury claim with Repwest Insurance Co. for himself and his young son, who was not in the car at the time.
