St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office Audit Shows No ‘Findings’

LACOMBE, LA – An external audit of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office showed no findings for 2015, continuing to reflect the improvements implemented by the current administration, reps said.

In 2013, the agency faced nine "findings," accounting parlance for procedural or bookkeeping deficiencies, and was placed on the Legislative Auditor's "non-compliance list."

In May 2014, Dr. Charles Preston was elected to lead the office. Less than three months later, reforms in the office's procedures led to it being removed from the non-compliance list. Last year's audit contained only three findings as Preston and his executive staff continued implementing improvements. This year, reps report, the audit was clean.

"I'm very proud of the work we've done to ensure public dollars are being properly and lawfully spent," Preston said. "We've come a long way in a short time, restoring the public trust in this agency and ensuring the transparency I promised when I first sought this office."
