St. Tammany Chamber ‘Sprints’ to 60 Ribbon Cuttings in One Day

COVINGTON, La. — The St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce recently conducted “Sprinting for Business,” an eight-hour ribbon-cutting marathon across St. Tammany Parish to celebrate local businesses that are reopening, recovering and returning from the COVID-19 shutdown.

On July 14, chamber staff members and ambassadors sprinted around the parish doing 60 atypical ribbon cuttings with only a handful of people involved in keeping with pandemic safety restrictions.

“Sprinting for Business was a unique way to show that St. Tammany businesses are open and ready to welcome their customers back,” said St. Tammany Chamber Director of Operations Jessica Hester, who organized the event. “It is our job as the chamber to promote our members and this was a fun, cost-free way to do that. We encourage all residents to recognize businesses as a key component to our quality of life, and to support small businesses.”

“Our staff has continued to support our members throughout the quarantine,” said Tom Meyer, the chamber’s board chairman. “Our board and committees have continued to meet virtually and ensure that we are providing information businesses need such as the Louisiana Main Street Recovery Program, PPP, EIDL loans and more. Our volunteer leaders are committed to maintaining a strong and relevant chamber despite COVID impact.”
