NEW ORLEANS – On Wednesday, March 23, 2016, St. Charles Parish Hospital held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the new Plantation View Medical Offices in Destrehan, LA. This facility offers Urgent Care Medical Services and Primary Care with additional services to soon include OB/GYN, Pediatrics, Urology and Pharmacy Services.
Plantation View Medical Offices is a 72,000-square-foot medical office building located at 13100 River Rd. built to provide greater access to medical and emergency care to the surrounding communities. The project began in 2013 when the 4.3 acres site was donated to St. Charles Parish by British Petroleum America for the purpose of investing in the community and addressing critical needs. In 2014, St. Charles Parish Hospital broke ground to build this new medical and business retail space.
In February 2016, the first service introduced to the community was through a leasing opportunity with St. Charles Urgent Care. Physicians are already caring for patients and the facility is an integral medical provider for the community’s emergent and after hour needs. Additionally, Ochsner Primary Care is now available to offer convenient care in this underserved region.
“We believe this project is a vital investment and will continue to strengthen the healthcare system in the parish,” said Anthony DiGerolamo, CEO, St. Charles Parish Hospital. “We are proud to have a destination in the community that offers healthcare access to our residents close to home. With the support of our local government officials and the community this concept became a reality. As additional medical specialties are introduced, access for our residents will only increase.”
John Landry, Chairman, Board of Commissioner, St. Charles Parish Hospital, said, “St. Charles Parish Hospital has been a proud member of this community for nearly 60 years. Our goal has always been to be the premier medical provider in this region. We take that commitment seriously because families rely on us. The Plantation View Medical Office facility advances our reach in the number of people we can care for and furthers our vision to continually improve the care we provide.”
St. Charles Parish President Larry Cochran said, “Having access to healthcare on the East Bank will bring job growth and new economic development to our community. Since this building also features non-medical retail opportunities, we believe it will spur development for existing businesses looking to expand, as well as for new businesses looking to relocate. We thank St. Charles Parish Hospital for their leadership and congratulate them on the grand opening of this incredible facility.”
St. Charles Parish Hospital is a 59-bed facility which was created as a service district hospital in 1959. In 2014, a partnership with Ochsner Health System established the sharing of best medical practices and the implementation of advanced technology, resulting in improved quality, expanded access to care and reduction in medical costs. Over the course of the partnership, successes include the expansion of the Ochsner Telestroke program to better treat critical stroke patients, a Hospitalist Medicine program to improve care for inpatients and the ability to provide “same day” patient appointments 99% of the time. Most recently, in 2015, the Ochsner Flight Care Program has extended the ability to reach patients parish-wide in emergency situations.
