NEW ORLEANS – Carl Howat Sr., SMA, SSRA’s Director of Construction Management, is celebrating 16 years of service.
As the director of construction management for Gulf South Commercial Construction – a subsidiary of SRSA Commercial Real Estate – Howat’s expertise includes: assisting companies with the reduction of construction costs, inventing creative solutions for technical problems and job scheduling and budgeting.
Prior to SRSA, Howat consulted for numerous construction projects throughout metro New Orleans and focused on tenant improvements. From 1997-1998, he was operations manager for the Oakwood Shopping Center – a major Rouse company regional mall, and was involved in the daily administration, development, engineering and maintenance. He also assisted merchants with their build-out needs, budgeting, construction bidding and tracking, purchasing, and the hiring of operational staff.
Previously, Howat worked as commercial property management division chief engineer for the Latter & Blum, Inc., commercial property management division where he supervised the operation of the company's mixed-use portfolio, including; repairs, electrical and mechanical upgrades and overall maintenance of a 500,000 square foot facility. He has also enjoyed success as a project coordinator and director of facilities for both Harrah's and River City Casinos and as the director of Engineering for John Kushner & Associates.
Howat received associate's degrees in both stationary engineering and refrigeration from Delgado College in New Orleans. He was awarded his Systems Maintenance Administrator (SMA) designation through the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) and is a Louisiana state licensed general contractor.
