Special Olympics Event In Mandeville Raises $60K+

MANDEVILLE, LA – The Champions Together breakfast fundraiser in Mandeville raised more than $60,000 for the organization, organizers reported this week.

Last Thursday, May 5, 2016, more than 100 supporters gathered with Special Olympics athletes from throughout the region at Benedict's Plantation in Mandeville. Between advance sponsors and pledges made at the event, Special Olympics of Louisiana raised more than $60,000, exceeding the $50,000 goal and surpassing last year's support.

The Louisiana River Pilots Association was the signature sponsor, offering $25,000 to support the event and the organization. Larry Rase, pictured with athlete Sean Adams, represented the organization. Adams, a longtime Special Olympics athlete and published author, was the keynote speaker.

"We are thrilled with this level of support for Special Olympics," said James Hartman, who served as honorary chair and emcee of the event.  "This organization changes lives, changes families, changes our entire community. To achieve this level of financial support and draw this kind of crowd for an early-morning event was very heartening – not just for those of us working in Special Olympics causes but for the athletes and their families. We look forward to an even bigger event next year."
