METAIRIE, LA – The Southern Eye Bank is inviting donor families, corneal transplant recipients and friends of the organization to its 8th annual Gift of Sight Celebration at the Audubon Zoo Corporate Pavilion, 6500 Magazine St., on Saturday, March 19, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The nonprofit Southern Eye Bank has recovered, evaluated and distributed ocular tissue to more than 40,000 individuals in need of a corneal transplant since their founding in 1947. Many donor families are local and donated their loved ones’ eyes post mortem.
Tickets to the event cost $25, and include zoo admission, picnic-style fare, a bounce house, face painting, arts and crafts and a butterfly release.
More than 500 people are expected to attend.
