NEW ORLEANS – Greater New Orleans has been awarded an “Honorable Mention” for ranking #3 for major economic development projects in the South in 2015.
In its annual ranking, Southern Business & Development magazine considers job creation and capital investment for new projects with over 200 jobs and/ or $30 million invested. Greater New Orleans just missed being named Major Market of the Year, with 175 total points to the 185 total points of Nashville and Charlotte.
The Top Five Major Markets of 2015 were:
Nashville – 185 points
Charlotte – 185 points
Greater New Orleans – 175 points
Knoxville – 100 points
Baton Rouge – 45 points
Southern Business & Development magazine reports, “The petrochemical sector in Louisiana continues to march on with lots of projects in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and the Lake Charles region.”
The magazine also highlights notable New Orleans deals including the $9.4 billion investment and 1,200 new jobs from Formosa Petro, the $1 billion investment from Monsanto and 250 new jobs from Textron.
Greater New Orleans has now been named “Major Market of the Year” or “Honorable Mention Major Market of the Year” eight of the 10 years since 2005.
