Solange Knowles To Ride With 2016 Krewe Of Muses

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Singer-songwriter Solange Knowles will ride in the all-female Krewe of Muses' signature shoe during the 2016 carnival parade on Feb. 4.

Muses Captain Staci Rosenberg, in a statement Monday, said Knowles will serve as the krewe's honorary Muse — a position "selected annually to honor a female role model who inspires the women of Muses by contributing to the arts in extraordinary ways and embodying the creative spirit of the nine original muses of Greek mythology."

Rosenberg told NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune’s Doug MacCash she thought Knowles fit the category perfectly, considering her devotion to music, fashion, charity and New Orleans. The krewe approached her more than a year ago.

Others who have served include Gautreau's chef Sue Zemanick, actress Patricia Clarkson and Civil Rights icon Ruby Bridges.

         Mardi Gras is Feb. 9.
