Slidell’s ‘Bayou Christmas’ Opens Thursday

SLIDELL, LA – More than 50 volunteers are working to prepare a presentation of more than 80,000 lights on the banks of Bayou Bonfouca in Slidell, that will open to the public Thursday, Dec. 15, at 6:00 p.m.

The event, sponsored by Toyota of Slidell and organized annually by the Boys and Girls Club of Slidell, is in its third year. Last year, more than 13,000 people enjoyed the event, which is free and open to the public. All children can receive free pictures with Santa and entertainment is offered each night by local dance groups, choirs, bands and others. Six local restaurants and caterers will be on-hand to serve a variety of food offerings, and an Arts & Crafts Walk features local artisans.

On Saturday, Dec. 17, the event will include a free outdoor screening of "Home Alone," sponsored by the City of Slidell's Cultural Arts Department, and on Friday, Dec. 23, the Princesses from the movie "Frozen" will perform and pose for photos.
