BIRMINGHAM, AL (AP) — Plans to offer nonstop commercial flights from Birmingham to New Orleans and Jacksonville, FL, have been put on hold indefinitely.
AL.com’s Joe Songer reports Silver Airways had announced the new nonstop services in April. They planned to offer twice-daily nonstop flights between Birmingham and New Orleans and nonstop daily service between Birmingham and Jacksonville starting June 16.
On Wednesday, an airline spokeswoman said the service, which was set to launch next week, has been postponed, and there is no timetable for when it might now begin.
The airline is offering refunds to customers who have already booked flights.
In 2013, Birmingham lost service to both cities when Southwest Airlines dropped the two routes, citing low passenger counts.
Silver Airways is a regional carrier based in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
