Shrimp Season To Close Monday In State Inside Waters

BATON ROUGE (AP) — Fisheries officials say the fall shrimp season will close on Monday in state waters close to shore.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced that the shrimp season will close in remaining state inside waters at sunset on Monday. The announcement was made Thursday.

The closing covers Lake Pontchartrain, the Chef Menteur and Rigolets Passes, Lake Borgne, Mississippi Sound and the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet.

Meanwhile, most of the state's outside waters, which extend 3 nautical miles offshore, remain open. An area offshore of Caillou Boca and Freshwater Bayou Canal is closing Monday at sunset though.

Officials close the shrimp season when biologists determine it necessary to protect the shrimp and allow them to grow in size.
